GoDaddy secures SSL Market Share

August 15, 2008 – 1:35 pm

GoDaddy announced Thursday that it has secured 20% of the SSL Market. This is a remarkable achievement for the domain registrar and web hosting service, having only become a SSL certificate provider in early 2004. The annoucement stemmed from a recent report conducted by web analytics firm Netcraft. The report stated GoDaddy’ has increased its SSL market share month over month since June 2007, growing over 80% in that timeframe. Go Daddy now claims to be the world’s second largest SSL certificate provider.

SSL certificates protect sensitive information from identity theft and hackers. Businesses use them for many reasons, one common reason, to prevent hackers from entering credit card information from clients who are shopping and making transactions online.

Go Daddy founder and CEO, Bob Parsons, attributes the growth in SSL certificates to GoDaddy’s low prices, while providing all the functionality of their higher-priced competitors. Not only does GoDaddy provide secure SSL certificates at a fraction of the price, they provide great discounts on domain registration by using their GoDaddy coupons.
